This month’s stash challenge is a little bit different!

I firmly believe that “different” is always a good thing when you work in the arts and crafts industry. Whether it is simply looking at things in a different way, using different mediums, trying different techniques….anything you can do to switch things up a bit pushes you out of your comfort zone and gets you thinking outside of the box!

So, instead of just asking the Design Team to use an older paper collection from their stash, I also challenged them to do something “different” and use a variety of different patterned paper to create repeating shapes for their page or project.

It was fun to see how each team member interpreted this for themselves!

“Minnie’s Garden Love” by Heather Ribble

Heather’s page is oh-so-sweet with her repeating heart shapes and adorable photos! We love how she created layered hearts as well as hearts that have open centers to mimic the open heart railings in the photos. Simply adorable!

  “Little Adventure” by Jackie Ashton

Jackie’s fantastic page utilizes over a DOZEN fun tags in as many beautiful verdant shades and patterns!

She cleverly added a black thread to “tie” all of her tags together. We love how this creates a frame of sorts that draws the eye right to the center of the page. How cute are those light green padded appliques tucked behind the photo? Jackie added even more dimension with the Swirl Wave die cuts and sparkly Facets. Just so fun!

“Fourth of July” by Emily Adams

We are seeing stars for Emily’s 4ht of July page! Her tiny red star background is a perfect canvas for her large bold stars and magical photo of the castle all lit up in her best red, white and blue.

The Silicone Embellies and sparkly Facets add just the right amount of dimension and whimsy to Emily’s perfectly patriotic page!

“Photo Op” by Natalie Strand

We are always so impressed with how Natalie (our resident pocket page expert!) incorporates the challenges into her fabulous creations! Her clever hand-pieced diagonal pattern and isosceles triangles repeat throughout her layout and are a nod to the geodesic polyhedron design of Spaceship Earth. In other words, it’s  really, really cool!

Is there a fun, repeating pattern that you’ve been meaning to try on your own page or project? We hope we’ve inspired you to think outside the box and try something different, because “different is good”!
