‘Disneyland’ metal cutting die

Let’s learn a little bit of history. According to my Google research, the original sign was placed on Harbor Boulevard in 1958 – three years after the park opened. The sign was updated in 1975 and graced the park entrance until it was replaced in October, 1989. Prior to its installation in 1958, billboards led visitors to the correct freeway exit where Disneyland was clearly visible and served as its own identifier.

I couldn’t find any information about where the original 1958 sign is stored but subsequent signs have been sold to private collectors. For instance, the second sign, that graced the park entrance from 1989 to 1999, was purchased by actor, John Stamos, in an eBay auction in which Michael Jackson was also a bidder. History is pretty cool!

Back to the present!
