A bright and colorful framed flower cluster is actually a “not-so-hidden” Mickey!
For this project, I used sheets of craft felt in a variety of bright colors to make my flowers, added them to the red polka dot paper and placed them inside a vintage frame that I painted a bright white.
Following the patterns above, I cut out my flower petal layers, centers, leaves and base.
I used an embroidery needle and embroidery floss to add a running stitch along the bottom edge of each flower petal layer, spacing my stitching about 1/4” apart.
Once I had stitched the entire length of the felt, I gathered the ends together and tied the embroidery floss in a knot to secure. This formed my first flower petal layer.
I repeated this with the other 6 flower petal layers.
To create the pompom flower center, start at one end of felt strip and roll tightly.
Secure edge with a small dab of hot glue.
For the rose flower center, begin rolling the outer edge (narrow end) of felt toward the center of the circle.
When you have finished rolling, tuck end under and secure with hot glue.
Assemble flower petal layers as shown and secure with hot glue.
Attach the round flower base to the bottom of each flower.
Make a layered bow using ribbon, and gather layered flower petals, flower centers and leaves for the final assembly.
Layer each flower as shown and secure the flower centers with glue.
Attach the polka-dot patterned paper to the backer board inside the frame.
Lay your flowers and leaves onto your patterned paper inside the frame and adjust til you are happy with the design.
Pinch ends of leaves, add a drop of hot glue and tuck in between flowers and under flower petals.
Although I made these flowers out of brightly colored felt, there are countless colors of both synthetic and natural wool felt that can be used to match any décor.
This whimsical flower Mickey is perfect anywhere you need a punch of color and is sure to make any Disney fan smile.
